The cantilever chair S 32, produced by Thonet, is the most universal tubular steel furniture. Navigating easily between the different styles of decoration, it fits perfectly in a resolutely modern room as well as in a space where different styles and eras meet. The S 32 cantilever chair and the S 64 variant with armrests are undoubtedly the best-known tubular steel classics. Their popularity comes from the successful combination of new and old with, on the one hand, Thonet's tradition as a manufacturer of bentwood furniture stretched with typical Viennese cane and, on the other hand, the revolutionary use of tubular steel. The backrest and seat in solid wood and cane embody tradition, the legs symbolise the present and the future. Marcel Breuer designed the S 32 and S 64 models in 1928, during his years in Berlin.Thonet has produced these two models since 1930. Thanks to their aesthetic reduction, the clarity of their shapes and the lightness of the cane, the S 32 and S 64 chairs are suitable for any type of environment, such as conference rooms, waiting rooms, restaurants and private interiors.

Architect and furniture designer, Marcel Breuer, born in 1902 in Hungary, had a strong influence on the Bauhaus school, where he was a brilliant student. After a year in Paris working for an architect, he returned to the Bauhaus, where he ran the carpentry workshop from 1925 to 1928, combining art and technology. During this time, he created his tubular steel collection, including the B3 chair, better known as the Wassily Chair, published by Knoll. This armchair is now recognized as one of the icons of modern design. After a brief stint in London from 1935 to 1937 with Isokon, one of the first modern design manufacturers in the UK, he emigrated to the United States. Marcel Breuer taught at Harvard’s Architecture School and worked as an architect in collaboration with Johnson and Paul Rudolph, and later Walter Gropius. He was the first architect in history to exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
