Description
Designed in 1977 by Vico Magistretti for O Luce, the Atollo lamp has become an Italian design classic, featured in several museum collections, after winning the Compasso D'Oro in 1979. The secret of the Atollo table lamp most likely lies in the assembly of its geometrical shapes: a cone placed on a cylinder, topped by a half-sphere. This light sculpture has a dimmer switch and is available in two versions. The first one is made of black lacquered aluminium and provides direct light. The second is made of frosted glass which provides both direct and diffused light.

Vico MAGISTRETTI
Vico Magistretti was an Italian designer born in Milan in 1920 and died in his native city on 19 September 2006. He completed his architectural studies in 1945 and then joined his father's studio, where he took part in numerous architectural and design projects. His first professional recognition came in 1948, when he won the Grand Prix of the VIII Triennale.It was at the end of the 1950s that he created the Carimate wooden chair (for Cassina). Since then, Vico Magistretti has produced a string of bestsellers for major design houses including Artemide, Cassina, B&B Italia, O-Luce and Kartell. His work features in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art. His style is characterised by a search for simplicity. The Atollo lamp, created in 1977, with its almost abstract geometric simplicity, is emblematic of Magistretti's formal research.He teaches and lectures at a number of architecture faculties and design schools both in Italy and abroad, from Milan to New York, via Paris and London, a city with which he has particularly close links and where he has been an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art since 1983.

O LUCE
In 1945, Giuseppe Ostuni founded the O Luce lighting manufacturing company, one of the oldest of its kind in Italy. The brand collaborated with Gio Ponti as of the 1950s. Ponti was a visionary designer who enabled the company to enjoy significant growth marked by numerous successes. Other well-known names in design have contributed to the company's success, such as Joe Colombo and Vico Magistretti.
