Bau is a sculptural pendant light suspension designed by Danish designer Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt for Normann Copenhagen. In a unique and original design that establishes a new way of thinking about light, she has assembled colours and geometric shapes in a tribute to the American sculptor Alexander Calder. Simple pine discs are haphazardly assembled so that the chandelier gradually takes on the shape of a unique sculpture, broken up by the different colours, sizes and irregular assembling of the discs, which give it a lively, natural appearance like a constellation in movement. The Bau lamp, which means 'construction' in German, is an example of a DIY object, because you actually create your own light fitting. The design of the Bau lamp is complex: at first glance, the assembly of the discs seems random, but a closer look at this pendant light reveals that nothing has been left to chance, and the discs create an astonishing optical effect. Perfect to brighten up a child's bedroom in its coloured version or for an entrance hall in its natural version.
