A simple sphere, placed in an apparently impossible equilibrium, on a cone that serves as its base. This is one of Gio Ponti's many magic tricks, designed in 1932. The counterweight of two basic geometric shapes creates Bilia, an original, perfectly proportioned light. An unpretentious composition, enriched by the extraordinary balance of its proportions and the elegant discretion of non-reflecting materials. Light is diffused and enhanced by the geometric simplicity of design. In designing Bilia, Gio Ponti imagined a smaller model in a dynamic range of colours. From the handwritten notes of the original project, Fontana Arte also offers Bilia Mini in new breathtaking chromatic variations.

Luigi Fontana was founded in Milan in 1881 and specialised in the production of glass panels for the construction industry.
In 1931, the FontanaArte brand was born and achieved instant success, with the 0024 pendant light by Gio Ponti, who was artistic director of FontanaArte at the time. The Bilia table lamp followed with its timeless design thanks to the perfect balance of its dimensions and the understated elegance of the non-reflective materials used. FontanaArte installed a new oven - the only one in Italy - designed to produce glass panels of all curvatures, in order to inject new momentum into the production of prestigious furnishings.
