Incontournable du design, la chaise S 34 se distingue par sa forme cubique, son design clair, ses proportions fines et son mouvement de flexion. Cette chaise avec piètement en porte-à-faux, parmi les premières du genre, associe aujourd'hui l'esprit du temps et le sens de la tradition. En 1925, Mart Stam commence ses expérimentations de structure avec des tuyaux de petit diamètre qu’il connecte avec des raccords de tuyauterie utilisés par les plombiers. Il crée ensuite les chaises en porte-à-faux, qui ne reposent plus sur quatre pieds, inventant un nouveau principe de construction. Présentées en 1927, les chaises S 33 et S 34 étaient plus de des simples créations, elles faisaient partie du concept révolutionnaire global d’une nouvelle ère du design. Conçue pour durer, la chaise S 34 Thonet est réalisée en tube d’acier avec une assise et un dossier en cuir.

Today, Thonet is an international pioneer in furniture design. After its creation, Thonet very quickly became a leading furniture manufacturer with a worldwide distribution network, working with famous designers such as Mart Stam, Marcel Breuer and later Stefan Diez and Naoto Fukasawa. The family-run business is run by the 5th generation of the Thonet family and its headquarters and production facility are in Frankenberg, Germany.
