Grand admirateur d’Alexander Calder, Bernard Schottlander crée en 1951 une série de lampes et luminaires du nom de MANTIS. Ses luminaires, jouant sur la tension entre l’équilibre et le déséquilibre, tels des mobiles, semblent défier les lois de la pesanteur.  La collection Mantis est aujourd’hui éditée par DCW éditions.  Le lampadaire Mantis BS1 DCW éditions remet en avant le travail et la source d’inspiration de Bernard Schottlander, créateur de des magnifiques lampes Mantis. Le mouvement est la source d’inspiration de tout le travail de Schottlander : artiste, ingénieur-bricoleur, il met au point un système de pivot-contrepoids astucieux, et utilise des joncs de métal souples et résistants. L’abat-jour de Mantis BS1, projette la lumière comme un acrobate en l’air.  En effet, Mantis BS1 de DCW éditions, est un luminaire d'une grande singularité et d'une élégance rare, qui se positionne au-dessus d'un fauteuil ou d'une table.
