Description
Designed by iconic American designer George Nelson in 1947, and first produced in 1952, the Bubble lamp was a revolution in the modern lamp industry. Available in different sizes and organic shapes, this elegant collection is inspired by a set of Swedish silk lights that Nelson wanted for his office but found too expensive. Employing the ingenuity that so characterises his work, he decided to use a spray plastic, developed by the US military, and apply it to a lightweight steel structure to produce these luminous sculptures. Iconic and timeless, this pendulum light reissued by Hay will find its place in all styles of interiors, alone or in a configuration of different shapes and sizes.

George NELSON
Born in Connecticut in 1908, George Nelson studied architecture at Yale University before obtaining a scholarship to study at the American Academy in Rome. From 1935 to 1944, he was a member of the editorial board of the Architectural Forum. He was then spotted by the head of the Herman Miller furniture company, where he was subsequently appointed Director of Design until 1972. George Nelson set up his own agency in 1947 and designed numerous products that are considered icons of modernism. At the same time, he began working with Vitra in 1957. His iconic creations, which include a wide range of furniture, lighting and clocks, include the Coconut Chair, the Marshmallow Sofa and the Bubble hanging lamps. Particular attention is paid to the choice of materials and lightness. On his death in 1986 in New York, the archives of George Nelson, considered to be the founder of American modernism, were donated to the Vitra Design Museum.

HAY
Hay was founded in 2002 to promote Danish design, and instead of strictly adhering to the style of the old masters, Hay reinvents their work in a more contemporary context. The company Hay reinterprets classic Nordic design forms in a modern setting, offering friendly, aesthetic, and functional designs. Hay draws inspiration from three main sources: art, architecture, and fashion, while paying particular attention to the surrounding environment and contemporary culture. The goal of Hay is to revive Danish design furniture from the 1950s and 60s. The Hay chairs perfectly embody this spirit: a timeless and minimalist design that combines comfort and functionality with modern lines.
