Designed in 1963 and reissued by &Tradition, the P376 pendant light is a sculptural statement in a contemporary profile. Preben Juhl Fabricius (1931-1984) and Jørgen Kastholm (1931-2007) were two architects with a mutual mission: to make form a pure derivative of function. Although they were partners for less than a decade, Kastholm and Fabricius have left a legacy of work that has been honoured in museums around the world. Kastholm was trained as a blacksmith and Fabricius as a cabinetmaker. This balance of perspectives enabled them to define a new kind of prestige, adding a luxurious facet to the prevailing functionalism of Danish Modernism. Their designs are characterised by their elegant, elongated, slender forms, simplified symmetry and modern mix of materials. Preserving the authenticity of the original design, designed to emit diffused, glare-free light, the P376 pendant light is made up of five concentric circles that meet to create an open shadow. Crowned with a cylindrical piece that conceals the bulb and acts as a support for the metal elements that form the shadows, the lamp is available in two finishes: simple brushed aluminium, or with a white inner coating.
