The creative talent of the renowned Bouroullec brothers can be found in Losanges rugs produced by Nanimarquina. After being named Creators of the Year in 2011 for Now! at the Maison & Objet show, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec went on to design hand-made rugs using the kilim technique in order to reimagine the traditional Persian rug. Losange rugs infuse a unique elegance and refinement to your interior, combining thirteen colours in remarkable geometric shapes for a stunning visual look. Each piece is unique and made by Pakistani craftspeople: "We have always been fascinated by traditional Persian carpets, specifically by the ancestral kilim technique which is a delicate blend of rusticity and finesse. We were fortunate to see this project carried out by craftspeople in northern Pakistan who skilfully combined thirteen colours and reproduced the geometric shape of a diamond. In addition to being hand-crafted, Afghan wool is spun by hand, which highlights colours with unique tones. This random technique makes each diamond subtly distinct and each rug a one-off piece" (E&R Bouroullec).
Born in 1971 and 1976 in Quimper, France, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec pursued their studies at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the École nationale supérieure d’arts in Cergy-Pontoise, respectively. In 1999, the brothers teamed up to establish a design studio in Paris. NANIMARQUINA
In 1987, Nani Marquina founded a tapestry company in Barcelona with the philosophy of producing bespoke rugs in accordance with its strict requirements: to combine harmony and softness while using cutting-edge technologies. Rug company Nanimarquina collaborates with designers to create contemporary rugs, such as the Losanges collection by the Bouroullec brothers, both eclectic and colourful and made by craftsmen in Pakistan according to the specific technique used by Persian kilims. The designer's "creative fever" encourages her to draw inspiration from global cultures and traditions, which can be seen in the colours, shapes, models and patterns of the rugs.
