Created by Raw-Edges for the furnishing and layout of an entire floor of the VitraHaus on the Vitra Campus, the Herringbone collection was born out of the studio's interest in the technique of immersion dyeing. Herringbone Vessels are created by repeatedly dipping ceramic bowls and vases into a coloured glaze. This process produces a pattern obeying an intrinsic logic, determined by the angle of immersion as well as the shape and weight of the object. The transformation of different materials and shapes by dipping them into a dye bath exerts an almost magical fascination on the design duo Shay Alkalay and Yael Mer, which led to the decision to further refine the design of the Herringbone collection for series production at Vitra. Each bowl, vase and tray from the Herringbone Vessels collection is entirely handcrafted and unique.
